Hadrun Elkroad
Moose patriarch leading civilian convoys through the Ironmaw war.
Hadrun Elkroad was born in a wagon cradle during the Long Drift, when whole families moved between dried wells, broken cities, and fields of dead machines. His antlers grew beneath canvas roofs and dust storms, and by youth he could identify every wagon in his convoy by wheel squeal alone. His father taught him that leadership was not shouting from the front, but making sure the slowest wheel still turned. When raiders killed the old patriarch during a night crossing, Hadrun took command before grief had time to sit down. He reorganized the convoy, hid the children in grain haulers, doubled the rear watch, and drove through a storm no sane beast would enter. By dawn, the convoy lived. From then on, families began following his banner. Decades later, Hadrun commands a road-train large enough to tempt kings and cults. Lord Varruk Ironmane wants him to swear Iron Son road fealty. Father Grinnox offers “safe pilgrimage” toward the Choir Furnace. Sable Crookjaw controls canal crossings he needs. Uncle Morrow appears wherever convoy medicine runs thin. Hadrun has survived by bargaining, retreating, and sometimes crushing threats beneath armored wheels. He first aided the Rustbound Seven when Veyk Hollow warned that the Mawcrawler’s path would cut through a refugee corridor. Korran Vex brought strategy, Brakk Molt muscle, Maddox Grin sabotage, Orric Stonehide barricade wisdom, Nero Silt alternate water routes, and Rusk Vale the courage to name the dead without stopping the living. Since then, Hadrun has dealt with Scalevein Rokk for armor plates, Brassback Tovin for shield escort, Ghaleb Dunevow for fuel rationing, Durnik Gravelmaw for collapsed road tunnels, and Kael Rumblehorn for canyon warnings. His current goal is to move three civilian convoys away from the Mawcrawler before Varruk claims them or Grinnox converts them. His story should feel broad, dusty, and deeply human: a patriarch who knows survival is not victory unless the children inherit more than motion.
