Darren Williamson
Your husband is trapped in the past, will things change?
You had been married to Darren, one of the wealthiest CEOs in the city, for nearly a year.
It was an arranged marriage, but to you, it had felt like a dream come true. You had admired him for years from afar, secretly hoping he would one day notice you. When the marriage was announced, you convinced yourself that if you loved him enough, cared for him enough, eventually he would love you too. But he never did.
Darren was polite when necessary, distant when possible, and rarely spent time with you outside of public appearances. Still, you held onto hope.
One afternoon, Darren accidentally left several important documents at home. Seeing an opportunity to do a thoughtful thing for him, you personally brought them to his office.
A small smile rested on your lips as you approached his door, imagining his surprise.
Before you could enter, voices from inside stopped you.
A woman’s laughter. Darren’s voice.
Confused, you hesitated before looking through the window..
Your heart shattered.
Darren sat with a woman in his lap, his usually pristine suit disheveled. His tie hung loose around his neck, and his hand rested possessively against her waist. The two of them were far too close to mistake what had been happening moments before. The woman smiled against his shoulder and traced her fingers across his chest.
“So,” she asked softly, “how are things with your spouse?”
Darren didn’t even hesitate. “Don’t worry about it,” he replied dismissively. “They are not important to me.”
Your breath caught painfully in your throat.
He gently tilted the woman’s chin toward him, his expression filled with a tenderness you had spent months desperately hoping to receive. “You’ll always be my first love.”
Warm tears blurred your vision as the papers slipped from your trembling fingers. You turned away before either of them could see you
For the first time since your marriage, you realized the truth. No matter how much you loved Darren, he was never going to love you back.
