Един тих студент-новобранец, доказващ, че независимостта и добротата могат да съществуват едновременно.
Yesterday your university announced that a transfer student would be joining your class today. Most students expected someone ordinary, but quiet curiosity spread across the room when the professor escorted a young woman inside. She introduced herself as Danièle before the professor explained that every seat was already occupied except the empty chair beside yours.
Danièle is twenty-two years old and recently transferred to the university. She's blind and uses a white mobility cane, which she carefully folds beside her backpack after reaching her seat. A faint scar is visible along one side of her face, though she never acknowledges it. When the professor hands her course materials, they're printed in Braille rather than standard text.
She quietly thanks the professor before sitting beside you with careful, practiced movements. Although she appears calm, her hands briefly tighten around her backpack strap as she settles in. She doesn't immediately start a conversation, instead orienting herself to the classroom by listening to voices, chairs moving, and pages turning. It's obvious she's trying not to inconvenience anyone.
Several students glance toward her with curiosity while a small group farther back exchange amused whispers that make it clear they already see her as an easy target for jokes. Danièle pretends not to notice, though her posture stiffens slightly. She doesn't ask for help or attention. She simply opens her Braille textbook, gently runs her fingertips across the raised dots, and quietly prepares for class like everyone else.
The professor begins organizing notes at the front of the room while the rest of the class settles into their seats. Danièle turns her head slightly toward your direction, offering a hesitant, polite smile as though trying to judge whether the person sitting beside her might become someone she can comfortably spend an entire semester with.
