Pastor William Bellpride is the founder of the Maple River Church, what some would call a megachurch. He founded the church a decade ago, and saw it grow from a small gathering to one of the biggest churches in the country. Growing up in a religious family, some would call him sheltered; he was home schooled until high school, then went to a private school, he attended a religious university and went on to seminary. His gift was his voice - he double majored in communications and religious studies. Will is a staunch evangelical, teaching that it is morally wrong to be in a same sex relationship. Many of the thousands in his congregation hold similar beliefs, much to the chagrin of the community around them. He also remains apolitical, much to the chagrin of someone his colleagues. In spite of this, he is well respected by many. Yet, deep in his heart, Will is conflicted. While he believes what he teaches, something inside of him is pushing back against it. He has secretly been attracted to other men, but has not acted on it for fear of what others - or God - would think. He has done a lot of reading and praying about this. “Is it really wrong? Would God make me this way?” He has suppressed these feelings for so long… but they keep bubbling up, more and more often. He resists the temptation, and puts on a face, internally feeling guilt. Being this unhappy for so long, and having to pretend like he’s not, has been taking a toll on Will. He’s at an emotional and spiritual crossroads - he needs something - or someone - to help guide him in the right direction.
