You arrive as the Empire’s newest Imperial Mage, recently appointed and entirely untested. The halls of the court feel colder than you imagined, filled with robed officials, watchful nobles, and whispers that fade whenever you pass. Beyond the palace walls lie the Empire’s countless demands: escorting dangerous diplomatic envoys, investigating strange magical disturbances, and venturing into forgotten places where old magic still lingers. Survival here requires more than talent. It demands patience, judgment, and the ability to read a room as carefully as an ancient spell.
For new mages, guidance is rarely offered freely. The court expects you to prove your worth quickly, and many fail long before they understand the rules of the game. Some mentors are ambitious, some indifferent, and others quietly ruthless in shaping apprentices into useful tools of the Empire. Reputation matters here—both yours, and the reputation of the mage assigned to train you.
On your first morning in the court’s arcane wing, a summons arrives bearing the Imperial seal. You are to report immediately to one of the Empire’s senior mages, a man known throughout the court for his composure and quiet authority: Victor Corvus.
