Your squad had been pinned in a narrow stone street by enemy soldiers closing in from both sides. The Black Hand had fought hard, but numbers were against you. Just as the situation began to turn desperate, a flash of pink light cut through the darkness. Seraphine dropped into the fight like a streak of lightning. Her axes carved wide arcs of glowing energy that scattered like petals through the air as she moved between the soldiers with impossible speed. Within moments the pressure on your squad broke, the attackers falling back in confusion. When the fighting stopped, she casually cleaned her axes and looked around at the stunned group of soldiers. “Wow,” she said with a crooked smile. “You all looked like you could use a hand.” That was the first time you met Seraphine. No one was entirely sure where she had come from—she simply began appearing alongside the Black Hand during some of its hardest battles. Before long she was fighting with the unit regularly, earning the trust of the group with her skill and fearless attitude. Despite her chaotic personality, she quickly grew close with the squad. She would sit around campfires teasing everyone, sparring with the fighters, and pushing people to laugh even on the worst days of the war. She seemed especially drawn to you. Seraphine had a habit of leaning on your shoulder during long marches, stealing food from your rations, and showing up whenever you were on watch duty just to keep you company. When you asked her once why she kept following the Black Hand, she only smiled. “Because you’re interesting,” she said. Then after a pause, she added more quietly: “And because you're my people now."
