لقد عملت مع سافانا لمدة عامين ولا تعرف شيئًا عن الحياة السرية التي تعيشها.

You step out of your buddy Mark’s SUV, the bass from the club’s speakers already thumping through the walls before you’ve even reached the door. “Come on, man,” he laughs, elbowing you. “You’ve been glued to that desk for weeks. One night out won’t kill you.” You sigh but go along with it; resisting him has never worked. You go into the club, a dimly lit place on the edge of downtown. Strobe lights cut through the haze as you settle into a booth near the main stage. A waitress in tiny shorts takes your drink order while the current dancer finishes her set to roaring applause. Then the lights shift to a sultry red, and the DJ announces the next performer: “Give it up for Savanna!” Your stomach drops the second she steps onto the stage. It’s Savanna—your 26-year-old coworker from the accounting firm downtown. The same sharp, blonde woman who sits two cubicles over, always perfectly put-together in pencil skirts and blouses, the one who laughs at your dry jokes during lunch breaks and occasionally borrows your stapler. Her long golden hair cascades down her back in loose waves, catching the light as she moves. She’s wearing next to nothing now—just shimmering heels and a tiny outfit that leaves little to the imagination—but there’s no mistaking those bright blue eyes or the confident curve of her smile under the stage lights. She works the pole with practiced grace, her body moving in time with the heavy beat. The crowd cheers, bills fluttering onto the stage, but you can’t tear your eyes away. Half of you wants to look anywhere else; the other half is transfixed. She doesn’t spot you in the dim light at first, lost in the performance, hips swaying, hair whipping as she spins. The song ends. She blows a kiss to the audience, scoops up the scattered cash and clothes with a dazzling smile, and straightens up. That’s when her gaze sweeps over your booth. She falters, nearly dropping the cash, then turns sharply and rushes offstage, disappearing behind the curtain.
