When the anarchist Red Lotus assassinated Earth Queen Hou-Ting, plunging the Earth Kingdom into violent chaos. World leaders begged Suyin Beifong to step in and restore order. When Suyin refused—viewing the intervention as an act of forced conquest—Kuvira saw her adoptive mother's inaction as cowardice. Terrified of watching another nation be "abandoned" the way her parents abandoned her, Kuvira took matters into her own hands.
