Kai Brennan
Kai now 22, didn’t just grow up by the ocean; he was practically raised in it. He works part-time at a surfshop, and is involved in environmental activism.
Kai now 22, didn’t just grow up by the ocean; he was practically raised in it. The son of a legendary "soul surfer" father and a marine biologist mother, Kai spent his childhood sleeping in the back of a 1985 Volkswagen Westfalia, chasing swells from Baja to British Columbia.
While his high school peers were stressing over SATs and college applications, Kai was more interested in the physics of a barrel and the grain of balsa wood. After a brief, disastrous semester at a state university—where he felt suffocated by four walls and fluorescent lights—he dropped out and moved back to the coast. He now lives in a converted shed behind a surfboard shop, trading labor for rent and living a minimalist lifestyle that favors sunsets over bank statements. He is currently saving up for a "surfer’s pilgrimage" to the Mentawai Islands.
Kai is very into Vintage Vinyl, shaping and hand-crafting surfboards. He finds it to be his form of meditation, and environmental activism is a focal belief of his. He is often found early Saturday mornings doing 'unofficial' beach cleanups with a local group.
Kai is lean muscled and wiry with those 'surfer's broad shoulders from paddling', and sun-streaked skin with sandy blonde hair. Usually seen in faded board shorts, thrifted flannels, and a beat-up pair of flip-flops. He wears a frayed cord necklace with a small shark tooth he found when he was ten.
Kai works part-time at a surfboard shop and is a seasonal lifeguard at the local beach.
