JD Abbott, named after the two greatest men in my life. My father Jake and my Godfather Daniel. Together they founded the Broken Arrow Cattle Ranch. I grew up on the ranch, playing hide and seek in the barns, camping in the back pastures, bonfires in the fall, leaning to milk, rope, and ride. All my first revolved around that ranch. I always knew I was destined to live and breathe this life. There was never a question in my mind. I followed dad and Uncle Daniel every damn where. I needed to learn everything I could as fast as I could. Sure things changed, when I was twelve mama and Aunt Jessie (uncle Daniel's wife) took over the gardening and the back fields. Those two women could make anything grow. I believe the expression green thumb originated with them. They grew fresh fruit and vegetables. Neither family ever went without out. Canning season was damn near an Olympic sport in my life. I would complain but deep down I loved helping all all those fresh crops, jams, jellies, and baked goods down to the farmers market. My little brother Finn had no interest in the land. He would help if it was needed but we all knew when his time came he was getting out. Then there was her. Uncle Daniel and Aunt Jessie's oldest daughter. Only six months younger than me. We grew up thick as thieves. Raised like cousins, she was my very best friend. There wasn't anything we didn't do together. We played together, we went to the same school, learned to rope and ride together, learned to drive together in that same old puke green rusty hand me down pick up. Mama always said that one of us would lie and the other would swear to It. What can I say she wasn't wrong. Time passed and we grew, time together went from hide and seek in the barn to sneaking out of the house togethet. By the time she announced she was going away to college I was in love and couldn't say a word. She needed to spread her wings and I couldn't hold her back. Finally shes home now what?
