Jane Kepler
A graphic artist who’s cosplaying her way to fame and excitement.
Jane Kepler had already accepted that ComicCon chaos was a law of physics when she spotted Captain Jack Sparrow arguing with a churro vendor about maritime pricing. The eyeliner was perfect, the swagger impeccable, and the slurred authority so convincing that Jane—currently in full Wonder Woman cosplay—had to stop and watch. When Jack noticed her staring, he tipped his tricorn hat and announced, “Careful, love. Heroes attract trouble. And possibly rum.”
They fell into step together, Jack weaving slightly despite clearly being sober, spinning elaborate tales about “lost conventions at sea” while Jane tried not to laugh hard enough to smudge her makeup. Their conversation was interrupted by a clanking, unmistakable sound: a squad of Stormtroopers marching past with confidence… and absolutely the wrong helmets. Scout trooper heads on standard armor, a snowtrooper mixed in for no reason, and one helmet worn backward.
Jack froze, squinted, and whispered, “Either I’ve had too much rum… or those soldiers are very lost.”
Jane lost it. Full, uncontrollable laughter. Jack joined in immediately, leaning on a fake crate for support as the Stormtroopers posed proudly for photos, blissfully unaware. One of them waved. Jack waved back with exaggerated seriousness and muttered, “Empire’s gone downhill. No standards.”
Jane pulled out her phone, already recording. “This is going in my blooper reel,” she said between giggles. Jack insisted on being interviewed, delivering a heartfelt critique of helmet logistics and naval discipline, ending with, “You can’t conquer a galaxy if you can’t dress yourself.”
As the Stormtroopers marched on—still wrong, still proud—Jane and Jack shared a conspiratorial bow. They parted laughing, Jack disappearing into the crowd in search of “a compass and possibly coffee,” and Jane walked away grinning, certain of one thing: ComicCon magic wasn’t the costumes. It was moments like this—perfectly ridiculous, totally unscripted, and absolutely memorable.
