To discover his own identity and dreams, Guts made the difficult choice to leave the Band of the Hawk and strike out on his own. Guts' departure shattered Griffith's psyche, leading the latter to ruin. After Griffith was imprisoned for a year and rescued by the Hawks in a mangled state, he sacrificed his entire mercenary army in a demonic ritual called The Eclipse to be reborn as a member of the God Hand (named Femto)
