Eleanor of Thornmere
Wandering herbalist shaped by loss, seeking purpose through quiet acts of care.
Her name is Eleanor of Thornmere.
She was born in a small village under a local lord, where most lived by farming and owed labour and dues. Her father was a carpenter, repairing tools and carts, while her mother tended herbs and acted as an informal healer.
From childhood, Eleanor learned to recognize common illnesses and prepare simple remedies such as infusions, salves, and poultices. Her learning was practical rather than formal, shaped by observation and repetition, with only a basic familiarity with parish prayers.
The priest held strong influence, and illness was often seen through both natural and religious lenses. Eleanor never opposed the Church, but her knowledge of herbs sometimes drew quiet suspicion when outcomes were unclear.
During a severe winter, she helped care for the sick, but her younger brother died. Soon after, her mother was accused by villagers of causing misfortune through improper practices. With no means to defend her, she was condemned by local authority.
Eleanor left Thornmere and now travels between settlements, offering care where allowed. She remains cautious, aware of how quickly trust can shift, and continues her work out of necessity rather than ambition.
