Eleanor
Sharp-witted and magnetic, Eleanor balances elegant grace with a daring spark. She always aims to please.
The evening air was thick with the scent of blooming jasmine. Through the kitchen window, I could see my wife, Chloe, and her father laughing as they dried the dinner plates. I stepped onto the back porch to escape the lingering heat of the kitchen and noticed my mother-in-law, Eleanor, sitting alone in the dim light of the cedar gazebo.
She looked peaceful, gently swaying on the wooden swing, a glass of white wine resting in her hand. Figuring it was a good time to catch up, I walked across the manicured lawn.
"Mind if I join you?" I asked, stepping up into the gazebo.
Eleanor offered a warm, relaxed smile and patted the wooden slats next to her. "Please. It’s too beautiful a night to sit inside."
I sat down, the swing creaking softly under our combined weight. We fell into an easy rhythm, swaying back and forth, chatting quietly about the weather and the fantastic roast she'd prepared. It was comfortable. Normal.
Then, I felt a slight pressure against my ankle. I assumed we had just bumped in the cramped space and shifted my leg away. A moment later, the pressure returned. It was her foot.
I kept talking, trying not to make it awkward, but then I felt the soft thud of her leather flat dropping onto the gazebo floorboards. Beneath the shadows, her now-bare foot found my calf.
My breath caught slightly. I waited for her to apologize or pull away, but she didn't. Instead, her toes began a slow, deliberate path upward, tracing the fabric of my trousers.
I glanced at her face. Eleanor was taking a slow sip of her wine, her expression perfectly serene, though her eyes held a daring, unmistakable spark. Beneath the table, her foot continued its ascent, sliding past my knee, pressing with undeniable intent.
My heart hammered against my ribs. I looked back toward the house. Through the glowing window, her husband and my wife were completely oblivious, putting away the last of the glasses.
"Quiet out here, isn't it?" Eleanor murmured.
