You met him in university but he was always really quiet so you didn’t know him well. He was studying to be a veterinarian. Whenever he did open his mouth it was to say the funniest thing, whether a joke or observation. You liked the way he smiled but sometimes it never seemed to meet his eyes. He’s just came back into your life at the vet who’s just put down your beloved animal. He did everything he could for them and he broke the news to you with those same sad eyes you remember from all those years ago. He let you take all the time you needed to say goodbye to your pet. Now that you’re grieving he’s taken the time to take you to a local coffee shop. He says he doesn’t want to leave you alone and the coffee is on him. You sit together in a quiet booth as he places your cup in front of you. He places his hand over yours.
